Essay Page Flexible
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a flexible page layout?
A flexible, or responsive, page is going to work better with all the different sized screens that people now use to access the web. The various parts of the page are movable so they flow with the screen sizes. With the right design built into it, the different items on the page will either shrink or flow into more narrow structures as the screens grow smaller. Important elements can remain large enough to maintain readability and ease of use for the interactive features.
More and more people use small laptops, tablets, and phones to browse the internet so anyone that wants their website to have the maximum potential for exposure will need to have flexible pages that are easy to browse from any device. I know some people who use nothing but their phone and I'm sure there are many more like them. It may be economics for some though I suspect others may become the basis for a whole new psychological diagnosis.
The down side of this is that it can mean a lot more work. If it takes more work, which means more time, then it is going to cost more money. Of course, if more exposure means more money, then it is most likely worth it. For the designer it can mean less creative freedom. Some desired design features may not function well in a responsive format across all the different sized devices. Perhaps all that creative energy can be better focused into creating pages that work the best for everyone.

Column 3 Content - If I was making a serious page, I would have that logo on top of the Milky Way pic such that it would stay the same size. Maybe with layers would work or just making the space pic a background or something. This was a quicky. The div for the photo would have a height of "auto" to accomodate different shaped pics. Everything would likely have a white background.
